OUR STORY

Rogelio Colindres, Chef & Owner

I grew up in a rural part of El Salvador with the best chef in the world, my grandmother. I spent countless hours cooking with her for the entire family in an old hut my extended family and I called home. Seasonal vegetables, fresh wild caught fish, and local meats were the only ingredients known to us, and we used these and whatever ingredients were then available to create our own eclectic meals. Cooking has always played a central role in my life and has served to shape and inspire the chef I am today. I emigrated to the US when I was 18 years old, following my dreams of becoming a world renowned chef. Throughout this exciting journey, I have had the incredible opportunity to work with many talented individuals, all of whom contributed knowledge and insights that combined with my own distinctive cooking style. Working at Acre Cafe helped to expand my knowledge of running a sustainable business. I believe I have a responsibility to provide the healthiest food options to my valued customers by incorporating locally grown, sustainable, and organic ingredients whenever possible in my dishes. My goal is to combine the concept of farm to table, that I learned as a child, with new and innovative techniques to create amazing food that is a comfort for the mind, body, and soul.

Café Rx

Many have asked, "how did you came up  with the name, Café Rx?..."

As you know, the Presidio in San Francisco has a long and storied history. Prior to being turned over to the National Park Service, the Presidio served as an Army post for generations. The building where Café Rx is located  was previously the Letterman Hospital, and the café is located in the old pharmacy dispensary. In addition, Rx in Latin is said to stand for recipe, so that connection is obvious! Café Rx is your prescription for a healthy lifestyle, which should be taken daily - Monday thru Friday from 7:15 am to 2:30 pm.
